In 1939, the Morgan 3-wheelers had progressed to Matchless engines. The top model, the barrelback Morgan Super Sports, was then equipped with the Matchless MX4 engine.
 
The long-time British motoring magazine The Light Car (that started as The Cyclecar) had tested many Morgans in its existence and were pleased to report on Morgan's latest three-wheeler model in their June 30, 1939 issue.
