Britain has its more than fair share of all kinds of motoring clubs, from different points of view. An old-established one is the Company of Veteran Motorists (CVM), which was initiated back in 1932! Like with the Institute of Advanced Motorists, not everybody could join the club at random.
 
To qualify one had to have driven without penalty points for at least 10 years (from 1933 onwards)!
 
The veteran part of the club name did not refer to the person's age, but rather to his/her driving capabilities.
 
Members of the club could purchase car badges of V-shape, with a year badge in its centre, referring to the members' state of penalty-free driving. The badge evolved in shape/material over the decades. It's a typical grille badge, with screws and backplates. It says "property of CVM"  on the rear.
 
The one for sale dates from the 1970s. The round badge in the centre, with the laurel, referred to the member's 15 years state of good driving. It is 93mm high and has a greatest width of 80mm. The main material is chrome plated brass.
 
The badge has obviously been used with pride, but still survived the test of times remarkably well.
